Lady Luck is a short film that has been shot entirely on location at Hammerwood Park (historic house that was built by La Trobe, the man who went on to design the Whitehouse and was once owned by Led Zeppelin) and Fontwell Racecourse. The film stars Abi Titmuss (Up‘N’Under, Hull Truck Theatre Company, Gutterpress the Opera, Hotel Babylon) and Adam Thomas Wright – 12-year-old child star (Percival in Lord of the Flies, Regents Park Open Air Theatre, The Awakening BBC/Studio Canal and A Stitch in Time). The film has a special guest appearance by Richard Strange (musician, actor, writer – Tim Burton’s Batman, Mona Lisa and Gangs of New York). The film also co-stars Tav MacDougall (Travers in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) and Maurice Byrne.
Lady Luck is about a small boy who is attempting to win back his mother’s happiness. The film is based on a short story by DH Lawrence called ‘The Rocking Horse Winner’ and was written by Fay Garrett and Jo Lewis. The film is a fairy tale for our time and deals with credit crunch issues of too much spending and greed against a backdrop of a small boy looking for parental love. Adam Thomas Wright plays PAUL – an 8-year-old child, Abi Titmuss his mother HESTER and Tav MacDougall his father RICHARD. Richard Strange plays PAUL’s slightly sinister UNCLEOSCAR. The Film was produced by Victoria Bavister and Krissi Mcilquham of Scruffbag productions, Leanne Savill, Jo Lewis and co–produced by Ameenah Ayub (shortlisted for an Oscar for her short film The Road Home 2012).
